Thomas was award the Royal  Humane Society's Bronze Medal for attempting to save a man from drowning on  West Cliff Beach - 15th July 1898                                                                              

Thomas also saved baby from the harbour after the unattended pram was blown in to  the harbour - 9th May 1938
