RNLB 13-49 Lois-Ivan
The Lois-Ivan is a Shannon Class all-weather lifeboat, the latest class to join the RNLI fleet. She’s the first modern all-weather lifeboat to be propelled by water jets instead of traditional propellers, making her the most agile and manoeuvrable lifeboat yet. With a range of 250 nautical miles and a top speed of 25 knots, the Shannon is cutting edge technology that meets the demands of a 21stcentury rescue service.
Designed and built entirely in-house by the RNLI at the All-weather Lifeboat Centre in Poole, Dorset, Lois-Ivan was launched on Tuesday 4th April 2023. Lois-Ivan is named after George Ivan Stone, and his late partner Lois, who left a legacy to the RNLI, the majority of which funded this lifeboat. His wish was for the lifeboat to be named after them both.
As well as the names Lois-Ivan, the lifeboat also carries over 10,000 names within the boat numbers RNLI 13-49 on each side of the bow. The Lois-Ivan is the fifth lifeboat to be part of the Launch a Memory fleet, which gave the opportunity to remember the name of a loved one.
The Lois-Ivan became operational at Whitby on the 8th September 2023.
