On Station as No 2 Lifeboat from March 1938 – May 1947.

The Jacob and Rachel Vallentine as housed in the Pier Road boat house. The boat was built at a cost of £658s 2d and was a 34’ Rubie Class Self-righting with ten (10) oars; she was not fitted with any sails. The boat was built by Thames Ironworks, Blackwall, Yard No TK52.

 

Originally named the RNLB Richard, funded by from a gift of Miss A. Dixon, West Caister and stationed at Donna Nook (1904-31) then moved to the reserve fleet 1931-38, then renamed in 1931 and reappropriated to the legacy of Samuel Vallentine when allocated as Whitby No 2 Lifeboat.

 

The boat was sold out of service on July 1947 Whitby Boat Building Company and converted to a yacht named Janderval, fitted with a six-cylinder petrol engine.

 

Curator’s notes

 

There were two Lifeboats named Jacob and Rachel Vallentine that served at Whitby, this is the second vessel.
