ON 766 Robert Patton – The Always Ready
Runswick 1933-1954
This 35ft Liverpool class lifeboat was built in 1933. She served at Runswick – near Whitby - from 1933-1954, during which time she was launched 48 times, saving 16 lives. Runswick Lifeboat Station closed in 1978.
Originally called The Always Ready, she was renamed following the death of Coxswain Robert Patton in 1934. He died at sea trying to rescue a disabled seaman.
